Peter Peterson

Death Comes to Peter Peterson— Respected Citizen of Petersboro Dies From Effects of Operation in Ogden Hospital. In the death of Peter Peterson of Petersboro, which occurred in Ogden on Saturday, Cache county has lost one of her most honored and respected citizens. The news of the death comes as a shock not only to the community at large, but as well to the large family, which had no idea that his condition was so critical. About two weeks ago Mr. Peterson went to Ogden for medical treatment and upon his return he was asked what the doctors had to say about his case. He replied in rather a humorous tone of voice, "They had enough to say." He has never complained about his troubles and although his sons and wife have detected that he was not in the best of health, they had no idea that his condition was so serious. On New Year's day Mr. Peterson went to Ogden for further treatment. It was not understood when he left home, that an operation would be necessary. He went unaccompanied and nothing was heard from him until Saturday when the family was phoned to come at once as the father was very low. He had underwent an operation for prostrates from which he rallied very nicely. He was conscious until about eleven o'clock on Saturday, at which time he began sinking very fast until four o'clock when the end came. The four sons who left Logan on the afternoon train arrived a few minutes before death. A large growth, about the size of an orange was removed in the operation. The body was brought to Logan Sunday night and will be removed to the Petersboro residence this morning. Wednesday at one o'clock p.m. the services will be held in the Mendon meeting house and burial will be in the Mendon Cemetery. Mr. Peterson was born in Denmark October 9th, 1847 and was 66 years of age. He came to Utah in 1859 and since that time has made his home in Brigham City, Millville, Hyde Park and Logan. He has been a farmer by trade and was the owner of one of Cache Valley's best farms in the Petersboro precinct. In this precinct he has held all the minor offices of trust, such as postmaster, road supervisor, constable and justice of the peace. He was a heavy stockholder in the Cache Valley Banking Company. He has been for years an active worker for the Republican party and his ideas on the conduct of public affairs have been listened to by all who have held the reigns public office in this county for years. There is a widow and seven sons to survive Mr. Peterson. The sons are as follows: Oliver L. Peterson, Logan; Edward L. Peterson of Petersboro; Levi L. Peterson of Petersboro; Fred L. Peterson of Logan; Willard L. Peterson, Price; Jesse L. Peterson now in government work in Oregon; and Miles L. Peterson of Petersboro. All the sons are here for the funeral services.
