Some time ago the Kidmans challenged the pick of Mendon for a game of baseball on account of the various boasts humors which were in the air in Mendon at that time. The challenge was not issued in a bulldog spirit as some of the chicken-hearted Mendonites suffered and we further wish to remind the public at large and particularly the Mendon ball team manager, that the challenge was not accepted in the least degree. The terms of the challenge were plain and simple namely, that the game be played on the B.Y.C. campus for $100 a side and all or more of the gate receipts. The Mendon manager sent the statement to press that he had given the Kidman manager six days to consider the proposition and probably wanted more.
Now this is absolutely false. All that we the Kidmans ask is a truthful representation. When the Kidmans last consulted with the Mendon manager concerning the game they did not have $50 of the money gathered and had scoured the town twice. Now just as a suggestion to the Mendon ball team let's cut out the newspaper dope and play ball. Again we ask the Mendonites to put up or shut up and preferably both. Here is a fact, if Mendon wants to get at the Kidmans we will ask them to cover the $100 purse any time after Saturday September 5th, 1914. Now if the Mendon manager considers this a bluff as he before stated, A Mere Bluff,
please get down to business.1
