Ira Ames was the son of Ithamer Ames, who was the son of Joseph Ames. His mother is Hannah Clark, daughter of William Clark who was the son of Samuel Clark. He was born in Bennington County, Vermont on September 22nd 1804. While still an infant, his family moved to a farm in Schyler Township in New York; about six miles from Ithica. He died in Wellsville, Utah on January 15th 1869, where he is also burried.
Ira Ames was a very early (1859) settler of Mendon, Utah, and was known as a great fiddler, with his violin services being much needed in the early times of Cache Valley for the purpose of entertainment. He seems to have been so good at his musical craft, as to have Wellsville entice to steal him away from Mendon by the summer of 1860.
