Joshua Joseph Adams

Young Ward, Utah— Our beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend Joshua Joseph Adams returned home to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father and loved ones on Monday, April 6th, 1998, from his home in Young Ward, following a courageous battle caused from the side effects of a malignant brain tumor. He came to live with us on December 20th, 1982. His 15 years on this earth were spent touching the lives of many people. Through four years of medical treatment he was always sweet and patient and truly an angel among us. He was a member of the teachers quorum of the Young Ward L.D.S. church, where his friends as deacons with loving hands helped Josh pass the sacrament even though he wasn't able to see. Josh-O loved animals and school and had a special bond with his teacher John Cardis, whose patience and kindness was unmeasurable and greatly appreciated. He loved skateboarding, UNO, and playing with his best friend and niece Jordi. Josh was proud to go to Spring Creek Middle School, where he was loved and cherished by the sweet students who attend there. Josh-O we love you and we'll mill you! Josh is survived by his parents, Ruth and Jeff Adams of Young Ward; three sisters, Amanda Adams, Young Ward, Amy Wilden (Dennis ), Nibley, Angie Howard (Jon), Logan; and one brother, Michael Adams (Heather), Logan; a special grandpa Lorin Coburn; three nieces, Jordi, Baylee and Tashina; one nephew, Poter Lane. Also many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who lived him dearly. He was preceded in death by two cousins, Richard and Ronald Thalman, and Uncle, Duane Adams, grandparents, Robert and Beth Adams, and a grandmother Eva Coburn. A viewing will be held from six to eight p.m. Wednesday under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, April 9th, with a viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Young Ward Church. Michelle Kay Ahlstrom

Mendon, Utah— Funeral for Michelle Kay Ahlstrom, eight month old daughter of Steven and Barbara Jean Searle Ahlstrom, will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Mendon Ward chapel, with Bishop Zeno Andersen officiating. Glen M. Alexander

Illness Takes Retired Weber State College Teacher, 69 Slaterville, Utah— Glen M. Alexander, 69 of 2350 West 200 South, died Wednesday evening in the McKay-Dee Hospital of leukemia. Mr. Alexander was born December 11th, 1906, in Panguitch, Utah, a son of Thomas M. and Roselle Matilda Bell Alexander. He was married to Violet Bird on October 29th, 1930, in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. He had taught industrial education at Millard High School in Fillmore, Utah, and had been an instructor at the Carbon High School in Price and Snow College in Ephraim prior to joining the faculty at Weber State College. He had taught in the department of architectural and engineering drawing at Weber State College until his retirement in 1974. He received his masters degree in building and construction industrial education from Utah State University. Was Foreman— During World War II he was an instructor at Clearfield Naval Supply. He had also been a carpenter and construction foreman and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. He was a member of the Utah Building Council for thirty-four years, serving as trustee for twelve years. He was also a member of the Ogden Building Trades Council and developed an apprenticeship program at Weber State Collage. He had been a member of the Ogden Engineers Club. He was a member of the Slaterville L.D.S. Ward and had been active as a home teacher, scout leader, teachers quorum advisor and an elder. He had lived in Panguitch, Logan, Fillmore, Price, Ephraim and Ogden prior to moving to Slaterville fiftyeen years ago. Surviving are his widow of Slaterville; two sons, Thomas G. Alexander, Provo; Melvin C. Alexander, Roy; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Evelyn) Sharp, Sunnyvale, California; ten grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and one sister, Dee E. Alexander, Provo; Archie B. Alexander, Panguitch; Mrs. Reta Egbert, Provo. On Saturday— Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at theree p.m. in the Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden with Bishop Arnold Slater of the Slaterville Ward officiating. Violet Bird Alexander

Slaterville, Utah— Violet Bird Alexander, 86, died Friday, June 5th, 1992 at East Lake Care Center in Provo of a stroke following an extended illness. She was born September 5th, 1905 in Mendon, Utah, a daughter of Mormon D. and Mary Ann Hughes Bird. She married Glen M. Alexander, October 29th, 1930 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. He died in 1976. She resided in Ogden and Slaterville most of her life. She was a member of the L.D.S. Church and had held many positions in the church. She had served as a Relief Society counselor, pianist, and ward organist in the Ogden 29th and Slaterville ward. She was an accomplished tatter. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She is survived by two sons, Thomas G. Alexander, Provo; and Melvin C. Alexander, Clearfield; a daughter, Mrs. Richard S. (Evelyn) Sharp, Sunnyvale, California; two brothers, Irvin D. Bird, Tooele; Marcell W. Bird, Kaysville; two sisters, Artice C. Bird, Mendon and Mrs. J. Leo (Orlie) Jensen, Ogden; fiftyeen grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at eleven a.m. at the Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Wednesday from six to eight p.m. and Thursday ten to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Mendon Cemetery. ~Newspaper Not Listed, 1992.


Zanona Rose Denny Altop

Zanona Rose Denny Altop— 83, died on February 21st, 2007 at the Logan Regional Hospital. She was born on November 12th, 1923 in Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Leslie and Eldora Stanfield Denny. She married Raymond Guiver Altop in June 1946 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. She had lived most of her life in California. She was preceded in death by her son, Craig Altop and brother, Zane Denny. Zanona is survived by her husband, Ray Altop; son, Regi Altop; daughter, Reta Altop; brother, Ray Denny; sister, Doris Mishler and as sister-in-law, Elaine Altop (Craig Altop deceased); five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 24th, 3007 at eleven a.m. in the Mendon Cemetery, Mendon, Utah. Arrangements by Allen-Hall Mortuary. Mendon, Utah— Zanona Rose Denny Altop, 83, died February 21st, 2007, at the Logan Regional Hospital. Ana Maretta Hansen Andersen

Former Cache Woman Buried, Mendon— Funeral services for Mrs. Otto Andersen were held Tuesday at the home of Mr. Andersen's mother, Mrs. Sophia Andersen of Mendon. Mrs. Andersen died at her home in Arbon, Idaho, and services were held there Tuesday morning. Speakers at the local services were Mormon D. Bird, Bishop Hyrum Hansen of Malad and Bishop Henry C. Sorensen. Musical numbers were a vocal duet by Joseph C. Sorensen and Mrs. Melvin Muir and a vocal duet by Orval Lund and Marilla Spencer of Brigham City. Prayers were by George Andersen of Malad City and Edgar S. Hancock. Interment was in the Mendon cemetery and the grave was dedicated by Joseph T. Wood. Mrs. Andersen was born at Brigham City, Utah, September 11th, 1871, the daughter of James and Margaret Grunstrup Hansen. She married Otto Andersen June 26th, 1902 and he, with the following children, survives: Clara, Norma, Katherine, Poppie, Harold and Ruth. All are of Arbon except Norma who is in training at a Logan hospital. Brothers and sisters surviving are Eli Hansen of Ogden, Mrs. O.D. Peterson and Hilda Hansen of Salt Lake City and Mrs. A.H. Catherine Sophie Sorensen Andersen

At Mendon— May 10th, 1882, at 4:15 p.m., Catherine Sophia Andersen, wife of Andrew Andersen, and daughter of Nicholi and Malena Sorensen. She was born at Hangerup, Sorø Amt., Denmark, on May 7th, 1831; embraced the Gospel in Copenhagen, March 29th, 1857, and emigrated to Utah in the year 1858. She has lived the live of a faithful, energetic Latter-day Saint, was the second counselor to the president of the Relief Society of this ward from its organization, and was always ready to attend to the wants of the sick, and untiring in her efforts to make them comfortable and happy, until the 22nd, day of December, 1878, when she was taken down with a paralytic stroke, from which time she lingered, under much pain and suffering until her demise. She has left a host of friends and relatives behind, by whom her kind and generous spirit will ever be fondly cherished. ~Deseret News, May 17th, 1882.


DeSena Sorensen Andersen

Native of Valley Dies in Clifton, Clifton, Idaho— DeSena Sorensen Andersen, 75 native of Cache Valley and wife of John C. Andersen, died Friday morning at the home of a daughter. She was born in Smithfield August 7th, 1883, daughter of Lars Christian and Matilda Anderson Sorensen. She grew up in Smithfield and on March 7th, 1906, married John C. Andersen in the Logan temple. She was active in various auxiliaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Mr. Sorensen lived in Arbon, Idaho, after their marriage, engaging in farming. They retired and moved to Pocatello in 1946. Survivors are her husband; sons and daughters; Willard J. Andersen, Pocatello; Mrs. Charles (Ada) Bailey, Clifton; Andrew M., Arimo; Mrs. Rex (Hazel) Terry, Las Vegas; Glenn C., Smithfield; Norman D., Oakland; twenty-eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. John (DeVena) Bradley, Logan, and Mrs. Bessie Ahrens, Mendon. John Christian Andersen

Funeral Services— For John Christian Andersen, Mendon native, will be held Wednesday, August 5th, at eleven a.m. in the Pocatello Ninth ward, East Quinn and Hawthorne, under the direction of Bishop Verl G. Lars Magnus Andersen ~ Veteran WW I

Mendon Man Dies of Heart Attack— Magnus Andersen, 68 Mendon native, died at his home Tuesday, apparently a victim of a heart attack. He was born September 3rd, 1879 in Mendon, a son of Andrew and Sophia Larsen Andersen. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the 21st Infantry. He was a member of the Logan Post No. 7, American Legion and past commander of American Legion Post No. 11, Mendon. He did some homesteading at Arbon, Idaho and was an elder in the Mendon ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served two terms as Mayor of Mendon and served on the city council. He is survived by six brothers and sisters; Andrew O. Andersen, Arbon, Idaho; John C. and Ezra T. Andersen, Pocatello, Idaho; George L. Andersen, Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Katherine Gibbons, Mendon and Mrs. Annie Pett. Nyssa Oregon. Otto Andrew Andersen, Sr.

Ex-Mendon Resident Dies— Funeral services for Otto Andrew Andersen, 85 former resident of Mendon, will be held Tuesday at two p.m. in the Mendon Ward chapel. Friends may call form twelve Noon until time of services at the chapel. Mr. Andersen died Saturday following a heart attack at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lynn Parker, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was born in Mendon March 10th, 1875, a son of Andrew and Sophia Larsen Andersen. He homesteaded in Arbon Valley in Southern Idaho until his retirement in 1949. He married Retta Hansen. She died November 7th, 1941. Surviving are a son Harold, Alameda, California; four daughters, Mrs. Roy Grube, Poplar, Montana; Mrs. Norma Humphreys, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Lynn Parker, Twin Falls; Mrs. Ivan Hewit, Pocatello; two brothers, Ezra T. Andersen, Pocatellp; George Andersen, California; a sister, Mrs. Annie Pett, Mesa, Oregon; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. ~The Herald Journal, November 21st, 1960, page 6.


Sophie Larsen Andersen

Mendon Pioneer Taken by Death— Sophie Larsen Andersen, 86 pioneer resident of Mendon, died Sunday of ailments incident to age. Mrs. Andersen, a widow of the late Andrew Andersen, had been a resident of Mendon of seventy-seven years, having crossed the plains with an ox-team in 1862. Her husband died in 1922. She was born February 7th, 1853, in Ogusborg, Denmark, a daughter of Magnus and Mary Hansen Larsen. Surviving her are the following children: Mrs. Catherine S. Gibbons and Lars M. Andersen of Mendon; Andrew O. Andersen, John C. Andersen, Ezra T. Andersen, Mrs. Bruce Pitt, all of Arbon, Idaho; one brother, Peter Larsen of Mendon; twenty-eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at two p.m. in the Mendon ward chapel. Burial will be in the Mendon cemetery under the direction of the Lindquist and Sons mortuary. ~The Herald Journal, May 8th, 1939, page 1.

Mendon Pioneer is Eulogized— Beautiful funeral services for Mrs. Sofia Andersen, Mendon's oldest pioneer woman, were held Tuesday in the Mendon ward chapel with Bishop Henry C. Sorensen conducting. A request number, "Come, Come Ye Saints," was sung by the choir, led by Kay Sorensen and with Mrs. Ellen Ladle at the organ. Prayers were offered by Oliver Taylor and Joseph N. Sorensen. Speakers who eulogized the noble character of the pioneer woman, who walked across the plains when she was only ten years old, were Jens Jensen, Mormon D. Bird, President Colon Sweeten of the Curlew stake, Edgar S. Hancock and Bishop Sorensen. Special musical numbers included a vocal solo by John O. Hughes, accompanied by Mrs. Mozelle Sorensen at the piano, and a duet by Mrs. Burton Napier and Mrs. Cleo Hansen, accompanied by Mrs. Dorothy Blaisdell, all of Malad City, Idaho. The grave in the Mendon cemetery was dedicated by Peter Andersen of Teton, Idaho. ~Newspaper Not Listed, 1939.


Alice Faye Anderson

Resident of Mendon is Crash Victim— A 21-year-old Mendon woman, Alice Faye Anderson, was fatally injured Sunday night when the car in which she was riding went off U-226, about four miles from the Snow Basin Ski Resort. She died enroute to the Thomas Dee Memorial Hospital in Ogden where four other passengers were taken for treatment of injuries. Rites Wednesday ~ Alice Faye Anderson was born March 7th, 1944 in Wells, Nevada, a daughter of Elmer W. Anderson and Ruth Pehrson Anderson. She graduated from South Cache high school and seminary and has been employed in Logan recently for the Mode O Day Corporation. Survivors include her parents, Mendon; a brother, Elmer Wesley Anderson, Jr., and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson Kirby and Paula Michelle Anderson, all of Mendon. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at twelve noon in Hall Mortuary Chapel, Logan, with Bishop Fred W. Sorensen of the Mendon L.D.S. Ward officiating. Elizabeth Ruth Anderson

Elizabeth Ruth Anderson— A choice daughter of her Heavenly Father, died on June 13th, 2008, in Salem, Utah. Elizabeth was born in Logan, Utah, on October 21st, 1946, to goodly parents: Ruth Elizabeth and Elmer Wesley Anderson Sr. She was reared in the small town of Mendon, Utah, and has fond memories of her childhood. She grew into a beautiful, gracious woman who loved the Lord and Gospel of Jesus Christ. Elizabeth married Brent Kirby and they had eight children. They were later divorced. Elizabeth moved to Lodi, California, in 1987 and made many friends there, just as she made friends wherever she went. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of California Davis in 1998 with an M.S. in Textiles. She designed the firefighter uniforms for the State of California Wildland Fires and put them into full production; they are still in use today. She taught sewing, textile science, pattern making and design at three different colleges. After returning to Utah in 2004, Elizabeth managed the Clarion Manor Center in Payson and had her own sewing business. She taught many women of all ages how to sew, and she loved the people she taught. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elizabeth served as Y.W. President, Primary and Relief Society pianist, Y.W. Camp Leader, and she enjoyed callings to serve in the Logan and Provo L.D.S. Temples. Elizabeth is survived by her eight children: Rachelle (Andrew) Sessions, Wendi (Thomas) Alexander, Jason Brent Kirby, Jerramy V. Kirby, Justin E. Kirby, Jennilyn (Garrett) Aston, Kody Aaron Kirby, and Amber Elizabeth Kirby. Eight granddaughters and one grandson also survive her as do two sisters: Kim Stuart and Paula Reupert. She was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Alice, and a brother, Elmer Wesley Anderson, Jr.. Funeral services for Elizabeth will be Tuesday, June 17th, 2008, at eleven a.m. at the Salem West Stake Center, 695 South 300 West in Salem, Utah. There will be no viewing. Friends may gather on Monday evening from six to 7:30 p.m. at Liz's home to share memories. Elmer Wesley Anderson, Jr.

Mendon, Utah— Elmer Wesley Anderson, Jr., 40 died Sunday May 13th, 1984, at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden from injuries sustained in an auto/motorcycle accident in Layton. He was born April 16th, 1944, in Logan, a son of Elmer Wesley and Ruth Pehrson Anderson. He married Kyrelyn Taylor. They were later divorced. He graduated from South Cache High School and later attended U.S.U. for one year. He was employed at the General Supply Depot in Ogden. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church. Surviving are a daughter, Roxanna Anderson, and a son, Theodore Isaac Anderson, both of Clinton; mother, Mendon, three sisters, Mrs. Brent (Elizabeth) Kirby, Bountiful; Mrs. Jack R. (Kimberly ReNae) Lucero, Ogden; Paula Michelle Anderson, Mendon. He was preceded in death by his father and sister. Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon in the Mendon Ward chapel with Bishop Richard C. Cheney conducting. Elmer Wesley Anderson, Sr. ~ Veteran WW II

Mendon, Utah— Elmer Wesley Anderson, 71 died January 12th, 1982, at his home in Mendon. He was born August 27th, 1910, in Lorenzo, Idaho a son of Axel Edwin and Jane Fisher Anderson. He married Ruth Elizabeth Pehrson, June 19th, 1943, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. He served in the U.S. Army's Philippines, Dutch New Guinea, Luzon and Leyte invasions during World War II. He was a security supervisor at the federal building in Salt Lake City. He was a high priest in the Logan L.D.S. Stake and served many years as a home teacher and temple coordinator and was on the genealogical committee. Surviving are his wife, Mendon; a son and three daughters, Elmer Wesley Anderson, Jr., Ogden; Mrs. Bret H. (Elizabeth) Kirby, Bountiful; Mrs. Jack R. (Kimberly ReNae) Lucero, Ogden, and Paula Michelle Anderson, Mendon; 11 grandchildren; three brothers and a sister, Herbert Reginald Anderson, Hamilton, Montana; Harold Fisher Anderson, Santaquin; Martin Victor Anderson, Mendon and Mrs. Keith C. (Irene) Leishman, Wellsville. He was preceded in death by a daughter. Funeral services will be Saturday at Noon in the Mendon Ward with Bishop Paul R. Willie conducting. Michael Justin Anderson

Mendon, Utah— Michael Justin Anderson, 22 of 166 South 1st East, Mendon, died July 28th, 1980, at the home of his parents of cystic fibrosis. He was born September 3rd, 1957, in Idaho Falls, a son of Justin J. and Doris Janet Wilson Anderson. He married Sherri D. White and they were later divorced. He was educated in Cache County schools and was a graduate of Sky View High School. He was an electrician by profession, having been employed by Glenn's Electric, Sunshine Terrace and Country Square. He was an active member of the L.D.S. Church and had served a mission to California in the San Diego Mission. He had been active in the Elder's presidency, Aaronic Priesthood leadership and as a home teacher. He was also active in Boy Scouting, and had attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He is survived by an adopted son, Kevin D. Anderson, Logan; his parents of Mendon; two brothers and one sister, Thayne J. Anderson, Bruce W. Anderson and Audrey E. Anderson, all of Mendon; and his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Justin C. Anderson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at noon in the Mendon Ward Chapel with Bishop Stanton S. Barrett officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from seven to nine p.m. at Cranney Mortuary and Wednesday at the chapel one hour prior to services. Ruth Pehrson Anderson

Mendon, Utah— Ruth Elizabeth Pehrson Anderson, 87 resident of Mendon, died on November 13th, 2001, of natural causes. She has been a resident of Mendon for fifty-threee years and was a granddaughter of Hans Peter Larsen, original settler of Mendon. Ruth was born on July 20th, 1914, in Logan, Utah, a daughter of Carlos Julius William Pehrson and Elizabeth Larsen Pehrson. She married Elmer Wesley Anderson in Cheyenne, Wyoming, June 19th, 1943, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on October 6th, 1943. They made their home in Mendon and together ran the Mendon trailer park. She received her education in Logan City schools, Utah State Agricultural College and Henager Business College. She worked as a secretary and piano teacher. She was an active member of the L.D.S. church and served in many positions including ward organist, teacher, Relief Society secretary and stake Relief Society secretary. She and her husband held positions on the genealogical committee and temple assignments. She was captain secretary and pianist in the Mendon Camp and a Daughter of Utah Pioneers. Surviving are three daughters, Liz Anderson, California; Mrs. Dan Stuart (Kimberly Renae), Riverdale, Utah; Mrs. John Rubert (Paula Michelle); fifteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one brother, Calvin L. Pehrson, Logan, Utah. A daughter, Alice Faye; a son, Wesley Anderson; and her husband, Elmer Anderson, preceded her in death. Funeral Services— For Charles Mark Armstrong, 22 former Logan resident, will be conducted Monday at eleven a.m. at Hall Mortuary in Logan.
