As an airman, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the air medal and a presidential citation. As a bulldozer operator for Parson and Fife Construction Company, Ken was moving soil above a gravel pit three miles north of Smithfield early Saturday. Company officials after further investigation of the tragedy, believe that he disengaged the clutch handle on the Caterpillar—but that the clutch didn't disengage because of a broken linkage. As he sought to turn the machine from the hill, it caved into the pit, crushing him as it overturned. Among the survivors not previously listed is a brother, Paul Krambule, Logan. ~The Herald Journal, January 5th, 1953, page 6 also see The Herald Journal, January 4th, 1953, page 1.

Joshua M. Krebs

Lewiston, Utah— Joshua M. Krebs was born premature, suddenly and unexpected on June 11th, 2001. Joshua passed away in his mother's arms at Primary Children's Medical Center of pneumonia on June 24th, 2002. Joshua was born on his parent's wedding anniversary at Logan Regional Hospital and then life-flighted to Primary Children's where he was later diagnosed with Joubert Syndrome. In his short stay in this life, he spent his time in hospitals and at home where he delighted all that he met. He is remembered for his patient, calm, loving nature and his contagious smile. When he wanted attention, he would give us a great big smile that would melt our hearts. He loved to be outside and enjoyed going to his brother's soccer games. There are very few that did not love and adore him and at each hospital visit, the nurses were all jealous of his never ending eyelashes. Joshua was waiting for a kidney transplant within the next month, but he and Heavenly Father had other plans. Joshua will always be remembered by his brothers, Zack and Trevor, who absolutely adored him and loved to play with him. Josh's brothers were always competing for his attention. We want to thank all the doctors, nurses, therapists, neighbors and the ladies in the lab who drew his blood. They took great care of him. It was a great joy and blessing to be able to take care of you this past year. We miss you baby Josh and we know that we will be with you again someday soon! Joshua is survived by his parents, Jody and Liz Krebs and his older brothers, Zack and Trevor of Lewiston; his grandparents, Vern Krebs of North Logan, Gary and Beth Wheeler of Lewiston; and his many aunts, uncles and cousins. Eufrosina A. Kuntze

Death Notice— Eufrosina Kuntze, 89 of Mendon died Saturday, January 16th, 1999, in Logan, Utah. A complete obituary will follow in a later edition of The Herald Journal. ~The Herald Journal, January 18th, 1999, page 4.

Mendon, Utah— Eufrosina A. Kuntze was born on New Year's Day, 1910, in a small fishing village five miles south of Manila, Philippines, where she spent her childhood. She dropped out of her junior year in high school to take vocational training as a stenographer at the Manila branch in the Philippines of the Gregg Business Institute. In 1930, she married U.S. Navy veteran August Huge Kuntze with whom she had a son and daughter. She survived World War II in Japanese-occupied Manila with her two children while her husband was interned in Santo Tomas University as a prisoner of war. Life remained somewhat normal until the final stages of the war when food became scarce, and U.S. air raids made movement difficult. Somehow, she subsisted with her family. After liberation, economic conditions seemed to stagnate in the Philippines, where reconstruction was slow, and war reparations dissipated in graft. August was optimistic conditions would improve, but Eufrosina preferred to emigrate to the United States. In 1951, she pulled up stakes in Manila and arrived in San Francisco, where she landed a job as a housekeeper in a Catholic priest's parish residence. Completing her last year of high school along with her citizenship training, she obtained a job with The Loyalty Insurance Group, where she was employed for two years. The repetitive work, policy writing with early tabulators, proved too stressful, so she left to work as a maid for different five-star hotels until retiring in 1968. By that time, she owned her own home which she purchased on installments. She spotted an ad in a Catholic newspaper offering a rock house for sale in Mendon, Utah, at what she considered a bargain. It was falling apart, but she was entranced by its history and rough-hewn look. She sold her San Francisco home for ten times what she paid for it and moved to Logan in 1971, later building a modern house adjacent to her newly acquired rock house. Forced to move into a nursing home by a fractured leg, she resided there for two years. Mrs. Kuntze died on January 16, 1999, from a second fall which fractured her neck. Graveside memorial services will be at one p.m. Monday, March 22nd, in the Mendon Cemetery. Arrangements are by Allen-Hall Mortuary, Logan. ~The Herald Journal, March 21st, 1999, page 4.
