Clarice Rosella Hettick Daggett

Mendon, Utah— Clarice Hettick Daggett, 84 died Friday, August 12th, 1988, at the Logan Valley Nursing Center. She was born August 12th, 1904, in Scottville, Illinois, daughter of Elbert Wilson and Judia Evalyn Smith Hettick. She married Harry O. Daggett in 1920 in Scottville. He died April 20th, 1953. In 1935, she moved with her children to San Pedro, California where she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. She lived in La Jolla for ten years and then Newport Beach. She worked as a medical assistant in both places and retired and cared for her former employer, Dr. Nadena Kavenaky until her death. She lived in Mendon for two years before moving into the Logan Valley Nursing Center. Survivors include one son, Bill E. Daggett, San Marcos, Texas; five daughters, Evelyn Weaver, Houston, Texas; Peggy Kunkel, Lakeside, California; Betty Harris, Nampa, Idaho; JoAnn Barney, Vista, California; Joyce Cammack, Mendon; one brother, Haven Hettick, Hemet, California; three sisters, Delilah Still, Portland Oregon; Helen Still, Canoga Park, California; Georgia Tendick, Inglewood, California; twenty-eight grandchildren; fifty-eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Manley Hettick. Graveside services will be Tuesday at noon in the Mendon Cemetery with Bishop Richard Cheney conducting. Laura Parker Hardman Swensen Daley

Former Cache Woman Dies— Mrs. Laura P. Hardman Swensen Daley, 69 of F-38 Army Way, Washington Terrace, Ogden died at the family home following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Wellsville. Born June 4th, 1883, in Wellsville, she was a daughter of William H. and Deborah Greer Parker. Most of her life was spent in Mendon and Logan. She had resided in Ogden at Washington Terrace since 1943. Mrs. Daley was married to Willis V. Hardman, in Logan L.D.S. temple in 1904. He died in Mendon during 1912, and in 1915, she was married to Joseph Swensen. Mr. Swensen died in 1923 in Logan. In 1948 she was married to John F. Daley in Ogden. Active in the church, she had served in the M.I.A. and Relief Society. For a number of years, she had been a worker in Logan temple. She was a former member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and at the time of her death was a member of the Washington Terrace branch of the church. Survivors include her husband, one son, Joseph D. Swensen, Ogden; one daughter Mrs. M.V. (Cloteel) Ekins, Mesa, Arizona; several grandchildren, one-great grandchild and two sisters, Mrs. David K. Hendry, Jerome, Idaho and Mrs. J. Parley Sorensen, Idaho. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, one p.m., at the Lindquist Mortuary, 34th Street and Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the place of services Sunday six to nine p.m. and on Monday until time of services. ~The Herald Journal, August 3rd, 1952, page 6.


Elias Davis

Elias Davis Buried at Mendon. Mendon, August 23rd Funeral services over the remains of Elias Davis who died so suddenly at Cache Junction was held in the meeting house Friday at two o'clock. The services were conducted by Bishop Mormon D. Bird. The opening prayer was offered by Brother Shaw. The speakers were: William Cunningham, Brother Kidman of Petersboro, Brother Thomas of Logan, Bishop Owen of Wellsville, Brother James of Salt Lake City, Brother Anderson and Jensen of Hyrum and William Maughan of Wellsville, all spoke feeling of the noble traits and character of the deceased. One of the largest funeral processions that has ever been seen in Mendon followed the remains to the cemetery. ~Logan Republican, August 26th, 1908.


Mary Thomas Davis

Mrs. Mary T. Davis— beloved wife of brother Elias Davis of Petersboro, died yesterday morning at one o'clock, from the effects of a cancer in the breast. An operation was performed a year ago for the removal of the cancer, but it only afforded temporary relief, and of late, Mrs. Davis has been a great sufferer. Sister Davis was born at Swansea, Glamorganshire, South Wales, in 1832. In 1869 she emigrated to Utah to join her husband, who had precede her. One year after her arrival she joined the church. Brother and Sister Davis first made their home in Brigham City, afterward moving from there to Collinston. From the last named place they moved to Petersboro, where they have since resided. Sister Davis was a faithful and affectionate wife, and leaves a husband and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. She died as she had lived: a faithful Latter-day Saint. The funeral services will be held at Mendon tomorrow at two o'clock. All friends of the family are invited. ~The Utah Journal, April 8th, 1893.


Adrianus Gerardus DeBruin

Mendon, Utah— Adrianus Gerardus DeBruin, 69 of Mendon, died Tuesday, October 19th, 1993, at the Logan Regional Hospital. He was born April 30th, 1924 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, a son of Jan and Catharina Philipsen DeBruin. He married Marie Gaillard on July 2nd, 1945, in Verdun, France. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. After completing intermediate school, he successfully completed an eleven-year apprenticeship under master cheese makers in Europe. Adrian served the dairy industry for fifty-one years. He held various management positions and was actively sought as a consultant to the industry. He worked for Western General Dairy. He had lived in Europe, Salt Lake Valley, California and Cache Valley. He served on the Mendon City council. He was actively served in various callings including regional mission, stake mission, missionary with his wife in France and had served as temple officiator in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. He is survived by his wife, Marie DeBruin, Mendon; four sons and one daughter, Andre and Julie DeBruin Monterey, California; Moroni and Nancy DeBruin, Clovis, California; Nephi and Joni DeBruin, Sacramento, California; Barbara L.A. DeBruin, Houston, Texas; Alan and Heidi DeBruin, Newton, Utah; sixteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Monday at noon at the Mendon 1st Ward chapel with Bishop Larry Olsen conducting. Friends may call at the Allen-Hall mortuary in Logan from six to eight p.m. Sunday and from eleven to 11:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Alan Georges DeBruin

Alan Georges DeBruin— returned to the presence of his Father in Heaven on September 7th, 2006. Alan was born December 10th, 1958 in Murray, Utah to Adrianus Gerardus and Marie Camille Antionette Gaillard DeBruin, the youngest of five children. He attended Sky View High School and graduated in 1976. After graduation he served a full-time L.D.S. mission in Roanoke, Virginia. Following his mission, Alan obtained his own business, A & H Trucking and Son Inc., hauling milk from local dairymen to Gossner Foods in Logan. He married his eternal companion, Heidi Maughan, on November 14th, 1980 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. They made their home in Newton, Utah and later moved to Mendon. Alan was an avid sports fan. If he wasn't on the playing field, you could find him in front of the TV cheering on his favorite teams. He loved playing basketball, camping, hunting, and cycling. He completed the LOTOJA bike race form Logan to Jackson Hole, Wyoming three times in his cycling career. On his last race, he placed first in his category, completing his life-time goal in nine hours, seven minutes, and forty seconds. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Mendon Third Ward. He served in many capacities throughout the years with the majority of his time spent in the Young Men's Program and most recently as Elders Quorum President. Alan was always willing to give up his personal time to give service. His home was always open at anytime to those in need. Alan was a perfect example of selfless service. He was always the first one in line to help whoever was in need and to best serve them. The best word to describe his personality is "gravity." His wonderful smile and cheery, upbeat style made everyone want to be around him. We will truly miss him and the way he made light of every situation he encountered, great or small. The thing that Alan loved most of all was being with his family and providing for their needs. After his father passed away, Alan was very involved in caring for his mother and seeing to her needs. His family was his LIFE! He is survived by his wife, Heidi, and four children: Bryson Alan, Amber Marie, Brandy Camille, and Marshall Maughan DeBruin. He is also survived by his mother, Marie DeBruin and his siblings: Andre Jean-Marie (Julie) DeBruin, Alma Moroni (Nancy) DeBruin, Nephi Emanuel (Joni) DeBruin, and Barbara Alexandrine Lucienne (Mark) Bouse. He was preceded in death by his father, Adrian DeBruin. Friends and family may call Sunday evening, September 10th, 2006 from six to eight p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home located at 162 East 400 North, Logan, Utah and Monday, September 11th, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Mendon Stake Center, 476 South 100 East, Mendon, Utah. Services will follow at twelve noon in the Mendon Stake Center chapel. Interment will be at the Mendon City Cemetery. Artemicia Maria Richards Decker

Artie M. R. Decker— Mrs. Artie Marie Richards Decker, 67 of 2014 South State, died Tuesday at 2:30 a.m. in a Salt Lake hospital of a heart ailment. She was born April 10th, 1886, in Mendon, Cache County, a daughter of Daniel B. and Marie Sorensen Richards. She attended Mendon and Logan schools, and then moved with her family to Salt Lake City, where she attended the University of Utah. She was married to Fred F. Decker, August 25th, 1910, in Salt Lake City. They made their home in Midvale for a time. Mrs. Decker has been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, particularly as a primary and religion class teacher in the Twenty-Sixth Ward. She is survived by her husband; her mother; a son, Clyde F. Decker, and three grandchildren, all of Salt Lake City, and a brother, Daniel Richards, Mendon. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at ten a.m. at 260 East South Temple, where friends may call Friday from five to eight p.m. and Saturday.
